Job Description

The Assistant Pharmacist – OP supports pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure safe medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, and high standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Safety, Dispensing and Regulatory Compliance

  • Perform all duties strictly under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

  • Assist in dispensing medications according to approved prescriptions and pharmacy procedures.

  • Do not dispense Narcotics, Controlled (CD), or Semi-Controlled (SCD) medications under any circumstances.

  • Retrieve, count, label, and package medications accurately prior to pharmacist verification.

  • Prepare medications for final pharmacist review and patient release.

  • Immediately escalate prescription errors, medication discrepancies, or safety concerns to the supervising pharmacist.

  • Maintain proper segregation, storage, and handling of restricted medications.

  • Ensure full compliance with DHA regulations and internal pharmacy policies at all times.

Prescription Processing and Medication Preparation

  • Receive and organize prescriptions for pharmacist clinical review.

  • Verify completeness and accuracy of prescription details before processing.

  • Assist in selecting the correct medication, strength, dosage form, and quantity as prescribed.

  • Ensure labeling accuracy before final pharmacist validation.

Inventory and Stock Management

  • Assist in receiving, checking, and organizing pharmaceutical stock.

  • Monitor expiry dates and implement First Expiry First Out stock rotation.

  • Ensure medications are stored according to temperature, humidity, and segregation standards.

  • Participate in periodic stock counts and reconciliation processes.

  • Report shortages, discrepancies, damaged stock, or near-expiry items promptly.

Patient Service Support

  • Greet patients professionally and provide front-counter assistance.

  • Verify and document patient demographic information accurately.

  • Refer all clinical inquiries, medication counseling requests, and therapeutic questions to the licensed pharmacist.

  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Assist with insurance documentation and claims processing under supervision.

  • Support accurate record keeping and filing.

  • Operate POS systems and process payments under pharmacist oversight when required.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspace.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy

  • Valid Dubai Health Authority Pharmacy Trainee Permit
