About the Role
The Data Scientist will support Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s academic and clinical research mission by designing, developing, validating, and operationalizing advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI models. The role focuses on enabling investigator-initiated and sponsored research, AI-enabled clinical studies, research registries, and translational innovation.
This position collaborates closely with clinicians, researchers, research administration, and external academic partners to translate clinical and scientific questions into data-driven research solutions. The role also contributes to evaluating external AI platforms and strengthening the organization’s AI research infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
AI/ML Model Development
-
Design, develop, train, and validate AI/ML and statistical models for clinical trials, registries, and translational research

Develop models using structured and unstructured clinical data, imaging, genomics, and real-world datasets

Maintain and monitor model performance post-deployment, including retraining and tuning
-
Support retrospective and prospective AI studies, including feasibility and validation analyses
-
Perform feature engineering, model validation, bias assessment, and performance evaluation
Data Management and Processing

Extract, process, clean, and validate datasets for model development
-
Work with EMR-derived datasets, registries, imaging, omics, and large-scale healthcare databases
-
Ensure reproducible research workflows and well-documented analytical methods
-
Extract data from database management systems and manage large-scale data environments
Research Collaboration and Support

Collaborate with investigators and research teams to translate clinical questions into AI/ML research use cases
-
Contribute to development and maintenance of research registries
-
Support preparation of grant applications, study protocols, and statistical analysis plans
-
Provide technical input on external AI research platforms
-
Collaborate with external academic partners on joint AI research projects
-
Communicate findings clearly to clinical, academic, and executive stakeholders
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field

Master’s degree in a relevant field is required
Required Skills
-
Strong foundation in statistics, machine learning, and applied AI within healthcare or biomedical research

Experience developing AI/ML models for hypothesis-driven and cohort-based research
-
Experience with structured and unstructured clinical datasets
-
Proficiency in Python and ML libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow
-
Experience with SQL and large-scale data systems
-
Experience deploying models into production environments
-
Knowledge of GPU-enabled computing environments preferred
-
Strong documentation practices suitable for publication and regulatory standards
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills

Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP

Familiarity with MS SQL Server, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse

Experience with Databricks, Azure ML, Docker

Knowledge of SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R
